His choices will save the land... or destroy it.

Ryuu is a boy orphaned by violence at a young age. Found by a wandering warrior, he learns he may have more strength than he ever imagined possible.

A quiet child, Moriko is forced into a monastic system she despises. Torn from her family and the forest she grew up in, she must fight to learn the skills she’ll need to survive her tutelage under the realm’s most dangerous assassin.

Young, beautiful, and broke, Takako is sold to pay for her father’s debts. Thrust into a world she doesn’t understand and battles she didn’t ask for, she must decide where her loyalties lie.

When their lives crash together in a Kingdom on the brink of war, the decisions they make will change both their lives and their Kingdom forever.

If they can stay alive.

This is the first book of a satisfying trilogy. You will want to read World's Edge and The Wind and The Void, books two and three. Typical fantasy book premise--banned class of gifted folks with valuable skills due to misunderstanding and biased historical record. Fairly dark with deaths of sympathetic characters. Even the middle book of the trilogy is worth reading. Plenty of suspense and interesting plot elements that occur at a rapid pace. Each book is one you will want to read in one sitting. I enjoyed the protagonist character development as well as the supporting characters he meets and befriends or protects along the way. Recommended.

I was surprise a book this good and the author only has one book for sale

I'm only half way through but it feels real. The scenes .... the consequences for choices. It felt real. I was surprise a book this good and the author only has one book for sale. Keep writing Mr. Kirk.

Epic...When is Book 2

The best moments I always have is when my are exceeded beyond my wildest imagination. This book delivered and more. I love Indie authors since I use them for fillers for my time as I wait for the Butchers, Sandersons, and Rothfuss of the world to release. To me, Ryan Kirk has the beginning of greatness in his storytelling. Bring on book 2!!!

A good read. I loved the pacing

A good read. I loved the pacing. I was worried at first because the main characters are introduced at such a young age but the author does a good job of moving the plot along and skipping over the fluff.

Traditional but good

Fairly generic story, if a little dark. But interesting unique setting and a magic system which is different then most fantasy.
